Tell Your Therapist What You Need

In the psychology section of Medical News Today, they have posted an article called “Getting the Most Out of Therapy: How to collaborate with your therapist.”

It points out that the relationship between the therapist and the client is an alliance and by definition should be the responsibility of both parties. Too often, people feel that the therapist has more “power” and should be in charge of things. But it’s important to remember that if someone is in therapy, he or she is often the one in the best position to determine whether things are going the way they should or not. The article reinforces the notion that clients should be honest with their therapist about any concerns and discuss them openly. It’s an important concept. If the therapist is good, he or she will be open to this candid discussion and it can launch the therapy into new and meaningful directions.
