New controversial research led by Dr Jonathan Ives of the Centre for Biomedical Ethics at the University of Birmingham claims that new fathers are being setup to fail. The study suggests that fathers who engage in the pregnancy with anticipation of active participation can feel a sense of disillusionment when they discover that they can only offer “passive support.” This disappointment can then lead to feelings of failure, which can ultimately, impact how he feels about himself and his role as a father.
