3 Hr Holding Training
An Introduction to The Art of Holding Perinatal Women in Distress™️

About This Training

Today an abundance of training opportunities exist for healthcare professionals seeking to specialize in the identification and treatment of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. This Training, led by Jessica Flint, MSW, LCSW, provides an in-depth overview of the fundamentals of The Art of Holding. In our 3 hours together, you will learn about this clinical approach and have some opportunity for peer interaction and discussion. For those seeking a deeper, more nuanced understanding of The Art of Holding and longer-form experiential format, we recommend our 12 Hour Training with Karen Kleiman.

The Art of Holding is a clinical approach rooted in psychoanalytic theory that integrates cognitive behavioral and mindfulness tools for relief from perinatal distress. This course provides training in the basic tenets of the Holding Paradigm and instruction on how to integrate skills for The Six Holding Points into any form of maternal care practice.

This course is not a prerequisite for the 12 Hour Advanced Training with Karen Kleiman.

Learning Objectives
  • Distinguish Karen Kleiman’s Art of Holding Perinatal Women in Distress from other therapeutic approaches for treatment of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.

  • Integrate use of holding points and understanding of the Holding Paradigm to improve assessment of symptoms and develop rapport in consideration of perinatal specific resistance. *

  • Apply holding skills to address perinatal specific losses in practice.
