The Art of Holding and Magic - An Introduction with Karen Kleiman, MSW, LCSW, and Jessica Flint, MSW, LCSW What is The Art of Holding? Have you heard of it but don't feel ready to take the leap into a 6hr or 12hr training on it? Karen Kleiman feels strongly that all perinatal therapists should be incorporating holding principles into their work. For this reason, she has decided to offer this introduction to the topic for all perinatal therapists who are curious and want to see if it is something that would be meaningful to their work. In the meantime, you might ask yourself: What does holding mean in the context of treating perinatal women? Do you believe that YOU are the greatest tool of your intervention? Do you wonder if your own reproductive journey benefits or compromises your expertise? Are you comfortable knowing that containing high levels of distress will lead to a positive outcome? Spend an informal, interactive hour chatting with Karen Kleiman and Jessica Flint to discuss The Art of Holding Perinatal Women in Distress model of intervention - what it is, why it is important, how it works and why you should be practicing it. Learning objectives Participants will be able to: 1. Discuss why The Art of Holding was developed in response to the nuanced needs of a perinatal woman in distress. 2. Identify the 6 holding points and assess when and how to utilize them at varying clinical opportunities. 3. List personal vulnerabilities that may impact the therapeutic alliance and describe how to ethically protect your work and your client’s well-being at all times. 4. Apply the fundamentals of “magic” in therapy and why this is so meaningful to the perinatal woman in distress. A virtual, live and interactive course via Zoom. 1.5 CE hrs The Postpartum Stress Center, LLC has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7461.
